Austin City Limits Festival, from the sky.

On a rare occasion, I get to do something truly incredible.  This weekend, I went up in a helicopter to photograph ACL Fest from the sky.  With much internal squealing and butterflies in my stomach I was lucky enough to circle the festival several times to shoot it from all angles.  Then, much to my delight (and for reasons I will never quite understand because it had nothing to do with the festival), the pilot flew us up Congress Ave THROUGH THE BUILDINGS, around the Capitol, the to campus and we circled the UT Tower as well.  Again, I have no idea why, but I’m really thankful we did!!

Those photos are coming soon.  But here’s the shot of the festival and beautiful Austin, Texas:

Jennifer and Rick, portraits and ceremony

Jennifer and Rick were married on the most perfect of Autumn days.  There were butterflies flyig around during the ceremony as well!  One landed on Jennifer’s dress and stayed there through the duration of the ceremony.  It’s said that if a butterfly lands on you it’s good luck.  What great luck indeed!

The BODA FOTO Workshop is coming up!

On December 6th, I am joining forces with the uber talented Jennifer Lindberg to teach a workshop for photographers that are just getting into the wedding business.  We understand how overwhelming it can be to shoot your first wedding (or actually get paid for shooting your first wedding).  During this workshop we’ll cover pretty much anything you feel like you need to know as well as many many things you didn’t even KNOW you needed to know.  We’ll also be having portfolio reviews.  Don’t be shy!  Just bring us whatever you have.  It’s going to be a fun day and I guarantee you’ll walk away from it with lots of knowledge that will boost your confidence.  Also, after the workshop we won’t forget about you.  We will be checking in with all of you to see how it’s going.  We still have a few seats left so visit the BODA FOTO website and sign up today!  Keep in mind that this isn’t a shooting workshop so leave your cameras at home but bring your laptops.

We will be announcing our shooting workshops in the future.  So stay tuned for that!

TGIF, y’all,

Sweet Wedding (and an Ashley update)

Hello there,

I apologize for the few and far between blog posts.  I’ve had a really heavy travel schedule lately which has ultimately led to my getting the flu.  Ugh.  So, I’m obviously behind on posting.  Many apologies!  Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up in the next week.

Today I’m bringing you one of my favorite weddings of 2009.  It was a second marriage for both the bride and groom with only 16 guests in attendance, many of whom were their children.  The ceremony was followed by a dinner with the loveliest abundance of flowers on the dining table.  Although we were only the for a couple of hours, the love  and excitement between the bride and groom and the combined families was contagious.  We left with big smiles on our faces that evening.  Congratulations, Lorrie and Ken!

I’m off to nap now. Probably for the rest of the day.

Holga photo featured on Kickpleat’s website

Kickpleat is an uber-stylish women’s clothing boutique in Austin, TX.
If you’re looking for a perfect clothing item that you will not see anyone else wearing, go to Kickpleat. The owner carefully hand selects every item in the store. She also makes sure that no other boutiques in town carry the clothing lines she carries. The clothes are gorgeous too!

They’ve chosen one of my Holga photos for their homepage this month!

Check it out:

The bride’s little sister served as maid of honor in this wedding. This particular maid of honor had just turned 18 and graduated from high school all in the same week! Look how moved she is by watching her sister say her vows.

I love moments like these.
